I grew up on some great blaxploitation flicks from Dolemite to Soul Vengence. I loved it then, I love it know. Perhaps that’s why I’m so in love with Jacky Jasper’s Diary of a Hollywood Street King. Check it out. Tell your friends.

What Are the Best Rap Albums Ever?
People often confuse rap with hip hop. Rap is an element of Hip Hop, but not Hip Hop itself. Hip Hop, as purists know, is composed of four primary elements: DJ Skills (Turntablism), Breakdance, MC skills (Rap), and the art of Graffiti. Other elements have been added over time to the culture of hip hop, including the “5th Element”, Skateboarding.
I think it’s good to categorize things. To be able to identify the elements that make up the whole. It’s important to have an analytical mind, after all.
So, let’s analyze and objectively answer an important question. What are the best rap albums ever? I have a few ideas, but you might know better than anyone else. Let the world know in the comments below. What are the best rap albums ever?
Measure by the following standards: lyricism, delivery, impact, and content.
- Lyricism: The vocabulary of the rapper. His words. His use of poetic devices within his words.
- Delivery: The flocabulary of the rapper. How does he say what he says? Timbre, tone, and rhythm should be addressed in this category.
- Impact: The reach and engagement of the rapper. Does what he rap matter? How has it mattered?
- Content: The stuff the rapper raps about. What is the message itself? Why would the rapper rap on this subject?
So what are the best rap ablums, ever?

Busdriver: Imaginary Places
BusDriver demonstrating his unusual, incredibly technical MC skill yet again.
Awesome Lyric:
“kids if you really want to piss of your parents, buy real estate in an imaginary place”
Don’t miss Busdriver’s early collaboration with 2MEX off “Welcome to the Afterlife“, “Walking Dead”. That record is super rare and has some of the best evolutionary work from the LA rap scene available. Special props to the OMD track after it, “Mosh to Da Sun”
Call You Later – Look Daggers – 2MEX & IKEY OWENS
Props to 2Mex and Ikey Owens for their reference to Talking Heads and Jonathan Demme’s “Stop Making Sense” in this video for “Call You Later”. Plus, this video was filmed in the awe-inspiring Long Beach bookstore OPEN (from their old location in EVAD).
Cool Lyrics:
“Between the if and the when with you; come see me and don’t bring your friend with you”
“You look cute in the photo lookit; make me wanna puke in the photobucket”
Be sure to check out Look Daggers release on Up Above Records.
LMNO & YANN KESZ – Never Stop
Leave my name out. The first single off the LMNO & Yann Kesz full-length album “Devilish Dandruff With Holy Shampoo” on Up Above Records has an awesome video. No need for cameos, besides those sweet Creative Rec’s.
